It seems like every couple of months there’s a brand new announcement of another band reforming, and we’re here for it.
There has been a crazy cohort of reunions over the last couple of years, and the inner child of many 90’s/2000’s listeners have been thrilled with many favourites coming back together. From Take That to Steps, many artists who have previously walked away from the music world have found themselves giving it another go, with a more mature sound.
Here’s our Top 5 who have done exactly that!
5. Girls Aloud
Girls Aloud rose to fame in 2002 when winning ‘Pop Stars: The Rivals’, a reality TV show that had the audience choose their favourite members of a new female and male pop band. Shortly after, they topped the charts with ‘Sound of the Underground’ that made Christmas Number 1. Since then, they had a phenomenal run of hits including classics such as ‘Life Got Cold’, ‘Biology’, ‘The Promise’ and ‘I’ll Stand by You’. The group sadly lost Sarah Harding back in September 2021, and the girls have recently announced their new album and tour in her memory.
4. Steps
Steps were the soundtrack to many upbringings and were especially known for their upbeat dance numbers. With many of their releases coming with their own routines, ‘5,6,7,8’ and ‘Tragedy’ were ultimately their most popular tracks, with listeners around the world familiarising themselves with the moves. Since their return in 2017, Steps have done incredibly well with maturing their vibe yet keeping their signature sound, and released albums ‘Tears On The Dancefloor’ and ‘What The Future Holds’ (Parts 1 and 2).
3. Blue
Blue were major heartthrobs of the early 2000’s, and had some really popular hits such as ‘One Love’, ‘If You Come Back’, and ‘U Make Me Wanna’. After their split in 2005, Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Anthony Costa went their separate ways. They came together and took part in ‘The Big Reunion’ in 2013. There wasn’t much of a buzz after this, however their reigning return came in 2022 with sold out venues up and down the UK. They now look forward to their Greatest Hits tour in Spring of 2024.
2. JLS
JLS became popular from the X Factor back in 2008, and came a very close 2nd to Alexandra Burke. Listeners went back for ‘Beat Again’, ‘One Shot’, ‘Love You More’ and many, many others. As the group disbanded Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill moved on doing their own thing and looking after their families. After a successful tour in 2023, they are due to headline many festivals in the UK this year.
1. Sugababes
Who’d have thought it? Sugababes always prized themselves on not being like other girl bands. Their edgy sound was the height of pop in the 2000’s, with a perfect combination of upbeat songs and tearful ballads. The group had a total of 6 members who seemed to rotate after a few years, with no more than 3 members at a time. Now, the original members Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy are focused on the future featuring new and existing material.
