Eurovision star, Sam Ryder, is currently starring as Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Jesus Christ Superstar – and he is simply made for the part.
Jesus Christ’s story is one that has been told many times before however, Andrew Lloyd Webber decided to…jazz it up a bit by making it into an intense, yet catchy, musical that has been enjoyed by many. This year, it returned to the West End at the London Palladium, with Sam Ryder playing Jesus Christ.
The story follows Jesus (Sam Ryder) and his story of how he ended up on that cross. The story is told solely through song, and the vocals were off the charts. Sam is known for his exquisite vocals, and the shined bright upon that stage. Particularly when he sung Gethsemane where he had the audience in the palm of his hand. Some audience members even stood up to show appreciation after the song concluded.
Other cast members complemented Sam beautifully. Desmonda Cathabel, who played Mary Magdalene, has the voice of a saint. Her vocals were heavenly to witness, and her rendition of I Don’t Know How To Love Him was a gift from God in itself. Changing the vibe completely in the second act, Layton Williams, who played King Herod, graced us with his presence with a fantastic performance of King Herod’s Song. It was fun, bouncy, and uplifting from what is, naturally, a rather heartbreaking story. The crowd loved it.
Overall, the performance was magical, and the audience would agree as every single person within the theatre was up on their feet during the bows. It was a wonderful perfromance, and one that you must see. Jesus Christ Superstar will be at the London Palladium until the 5th September. You can grab last minute tickets here! Grab them before its too late!
