It’s that time of year where festivals slowly draw to a close as the Autumnal season approaches. However, you wouldn’t think that if you had attended Trentham Live this weekend!
The four-day music festival saw an array of talented artists including, FIVE, The Wanted 2.0, Human League, and Madness. We attended the event on the Friday where Madness were the fantastic headliners, and what a show it was.
The evening truly started when support act, The Coral, took to the stage to warm the crowd up. The band sung a good variety of their hits including In The Morning, and Pass it On. They also performed a few newer tracks from their most latest album that included Ride That Train and Leave it in the Past before concluding with fan favourite Dreaming of You. Overall, they were the perfect act to get the crowd moving before the show.
Frustratingly, after months of dry weather, heatwaves, and droughts, the skys opened up on us as it poored briefly with rain. However, this failed to drown the crowds spirits. It was nothing a flimsy plastic poncho and a warm drink wouldn’t fix. They powered through the rain before the skies cleared for what we were all there for, and that was to see Madness to their thing.
The band graced us with their presence and the audience were captivated by, not only the incredible music performance, but also the story telling. Between every song, Suggs, or another member, would tell us a bit of background behind the song they were about to sing. Whether that be how they wrote it, where they were in their life when it was written, or simply the story behind the lyricism. This made the crowd feel appriciated and a part of something, whilst also learing something different. The communication between band and fan was something special.
So, what hit songs were on the setlist? Well, a lot. They started with fan favourite, One Step Beyond which was the perfect opener. They then moved onto to tracks such as; It Must Be Love, My Girl, and Grey Day. With every song sung, the crowd would loosen up even more. By the time the band came to the end of their setlist, every single person was up on their feet, kicking and dancing like we had transported back to an Eighties disco.
Of course, it would not be a Madness gig without Baggy Trousers, House of Fun, and Our House – this is where the crowd were the most energetic. The night quickly drew to a close as they ended with Night Boat to Cairo. Whilst it was sad that a night of fun had to come to an end, it was certainly one to remember.
