Well, it’s a moment we were all waiting for, and it’s even better than we expected! Not only did Taylor Swift release her promised album “The Tortured Poets Department,” she was one step ahead of us by releasing a DOUBLE album “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.”

Strap in readers, there is a lot to pack in here. Taylor has sent the music world into a frenzy. So, let’s begin with what we already knew before midnight hit. Taylor announced that she was releasing her 11th studio album on the 19th April. We discovered that it was to be a 16-track album that features Post Malone and Florence and the Machine (we’ll get back to this shortly). Well, “The Tortured Poets Department” was indeed released on this day at midnight EST, and fans enjoyed 2 hours of sheer, enchanting bliss. “Florida!!!” featuring Florence and the Machine is certainly a stand out, as well as “My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys,” “Down Bad,” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” The title track has also sparked a debate about who the song may be referring to (we don’t like gossip here…but if you know, you know).

“Fortnight” features Post Malone and, before the official release, Taylor Swift hinted with QR codes around the world that this will be the leading single from the album. An incredible music video was released alongside this track which showcases Taylor’s and Post’s artistic vision. It has an eeriness that makes you feel a tad uneasy watching it, but it is so pleasing to the eye that you can’t help but watch. Taylor Swift looks stunning in the contrasting black and white theme. “Fortnight” is the perfect track to open the album. It sets the scene for what’s to come.

On the album, Taylor explains;

“The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.

And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

Now, about this “double album.” Taylor is known for throwing a bombshell into the works, and this time was certainly no different. After just 2 hours, the superstar dropped a deluxe version of the album. She hadn’t even given her fans time to process the emotions of listening to 16 tracks, before she released ANOTHER 15 more?! Yes. 15 MORE! Altogether we have 31 new Taylor Swift songs. We know. It’s a lot to process. So, what are these surprise songs none of us knew about we hear you ask? Well… they’re all just as captivating as the rest of the album. “So High School” has been quite the conversation starter around the Swiftie community as they speculate that it’s about her current relationship with Travis Kelce. “thanK you aIMee” is also being talked about quite significantly. Again, we don’t spread gossip here, we’re all about the music BUT…we’ll let you figure it out! We will say that it’s an incredible track about healing, and not letting anyone get you down.

We would love to talk about this album track by track but let’s face it…we’re a blog, we don’t write novels! We will say that the entire album is beautifully written and an experience that you wish you could relive over and over again. Words simply cannot express just how wonderful it is. You have to listen to it to truly appreciate it. The full track list can be found below, and you can stream “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” on all major streaming platforms now!
