The first episode of the latest Marvel series, ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’, was released on Disney Plus last week. After the success of ‘WandaVision’, Marvel continue to thrill their fans with new Phase 4 material based after the events of EndGame.
Sam Wilson (Falcon) has been in the series since his appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This is the same film that gave Bucky Barnes the name of ‘The Winter Soldier’. Throughout the franchise, we’ve seen both characters grow an established relationship with Captain America, and we even saw Cap give Falcon his shield at the end of EndGame. But what will he do with it from here?
‘The Falcon and The Winter Solider’ shows how different life is since the snap. Sam is spending a lot more time with his sister, nieces and nephews, who are desperately trying to stay afloat financially. While still fighting crime and doing his part, Sam is conscious of the responsibilities left behind since helping The Avengers.
Bucky is also struggling with the new world, and is still coming to terms with his actions as The Winter Soldier many years ago. We see him in therapy, trying to piece together a mixture of emotions such as grief and guilt.
So, what does the first episode tell us so far? Mostly that the two of them are living very separate lives and trying their best to focus on getting their lives on track. Sam has made contact with Bucky, however right now, he is get to respond.
The next couple of episodes will see the two re-unite in order to fight a common enemy. With familiar faces appearing along the way, why miss the chance to follow the Marvel journey through its’ next phase? Find out what happens next over on Disney+.
