We’re back for our final instalment of our Top 5 Christmas number 1’s series, here is our thoughts on the 2010’s!
5) Skyscraper – Sam Bailey
A really authentic twist on the Demi Lovato classic introduces the final segment of our Top 5 Christmas songs series. At the time, it had been a while since someone in the ‘over 25’ category had won the singing competition and this track will cement your idea that the right decision was made! An incredible listen for remembering your self worth and an incredibly powerful message, pass the tissues!
4) Rockabye- Clean Bandit
An absolute power house of artists combining Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, and Anne-Marie. Sometimes collaborations can throw together some really inspiring yet different artists, yet they blend perfectly. With the thought of family and the bond between a parent and child, the track puts a much needed updated spin on the classic lullaby ‘Rockabye’.
3) Wherever You Are – Military Wives with Gareth Malone and London Metropolitan Orchestra
The first time in a while since a more classic vibe was brought to the Christmas number 1 spot at Christmas. Singing for their loved ones in the military, the Military Wives topped the hot spot in 2011. If you’re missing a special someone this year, be sure to add this comforting and tastefull ballad to your playlist, you won’t be feeling lonely much longer.
2) Perfect – Ed Sheeran
Even before it’s single release, ‘Perfect’ was already a huge fan favourite from the ‘Divide’ album released earlier that year. It’s popularity has increased so much that many couples now use it to reflect on their relationship, and is a popular choice for the first dance at many weddings. It’s warm messages accompanied by the sweet harmonies and backing track is exactly what you’ll want to hear this time of year.
1) Something I Need – Ben Haenow
We’re rounding off this series with yet another X Factor winner, but it really couldn’t be anyone else! It’s a belter, and will have you singing by the first chorus. ‘Something I Need’ was originally sang by One Republic, and was chosen as the winners’ song for Ben Haenow in 2014 when he beat Fleur East to the winning position.
There we have it, with a range of emotions and vibes Christmas number 1 has taken many forms and we can’t wait to see who makes it this year. We’ll be taking a short break over Christmas, a big thank you to our readers and artists who have made some phenomenal music in 2023!
