This week saw the third year anniversary of 5 Seconds of Summer’s iconic album “Youngblood.” This album went down in history and remains to be one of the bands’ best albums to date.
“Youngblood” is one of those records that you can listen to from start to finish without ever getting tired of listening to the same songs over and over again. Each track holds a special place in the 5SOS fandom’s hearts, and each one of them resonates personal in some way of each individual member. We wanted to celebrate this milestone by sharing our top five favourite tracks with you all. So without further ado, let’s get to it!
5) Youngblood (Track 1)
It would be a foolish move to create a list of our top five Youngblood tracks without mentioning the title track. “Youngblood” is the first song on the record and what a first song it is. It wasn’t just loved by the 5SOS fandom, but from music lovers from all across the globe. it was one of the biggest singles to be released when it was dropped back in 2018, and has since accumulated over 1 billion streams on Spotify! Whilst the verses have an eerie, captivating vibe, the chorus blows us away with its power. It’s a timeless song that will go down in the history books. You just can’t help but love it.
4) Moving Along (Track 6)
“Moving Along” is a song that everyone can resonate with. It tells the story of looking back at a relationship that has ended, and wondering if that person is feeling as bad as you, or if they are moving on. We have all at some point questioned whether the person we love is thinking about us as much as we think of them. We also wonder whether they even care and have forgotten all about us. “Moving Along” describes this feeling perfectly with its highly infectious beats and powerful songwriting. It’s a song that you can listen to if you want to know exactly how you feel. There is no better feeling than finding a song that describes your situation perfectly.
3) Want You Back (Track 2)
“Want You Back” was the first single that 5SOS released ahead of the album. There fans were ecstatic with the new sound. Their previous albums, whilst still filled to the brim with bangers, showed a more pop side to the band. “Youngblood” however, delves into a more darker and intense side. Quite the contrast to what we were used to. “Want You Back” showcases this edgy sound beautifully. Luke Hemmings’ vocals trult make the track what it is. The low tones in his voice are enchanting, the high notes in the chorus is flawless, pair that with the stunning instrumentation from his fellow band members, and together you have an absolute masterpiece. The bass insane, and they did a fantastic job of gradually building the song up to stop you from turning it off. It truly is quite something.
2) Lie To Me (Track 3)
5SOS never fail to pull at our heartstrings. They can create the catchiest songs you have ever heard, to the most heartbreaking ones imaginable. That is why they are one of the greatest bands today. “Lie To Me” falls in the latter. It leaves you ugly crying at night but you don’t really mind. Sad songs need to be present in everyones lives. It helps us deal with our feelings. It is a form of therapy. “Lie To Me” is perfect for a good old crying session. The track radiates so much emotion, you’ll start to miss an ex that you were over years ago. You simply can’t help it.
1)Ghost of You (Track 13)
We’re sticking with the theme of heartbreak for our top spot. Sometimes, the most simple track of all makes for the best. “Ghost of You” is an absolutely stunning song that is easy to appreciate. The flow is so beautiful and addictive, the stunning guitar melody and fabulous piano will have you in a dreamlike state. It honestly is one of the most heartbreaking songs to ever exist. The best thing about it, is how the lyrics change. The chorus at the beginning
“So I drown it out like I always do
Dancing through our house
With the ghost of you
And I chase it down
With a shot of truth
Dancing through our house
With the ghost of you”
By the end it sings;
“So I drown it out like I always do
Dancing through our house
With the ghost of you
And I chase it down
With a shot of truth
That my feet don’t dance
Like they did with you”
It’s so simple, its genius. The build up will leave you captivated, the lyrics will leave you heartbroken. It’s emotional, heart wrenching, powerful, and it deserves the top spot on our list. Simply stunning.
