The Queen of Y2K, Hilary Duff, graced Cardiff with her presence as she continues the lucky me tour.

Utilita Arena was packed with dedicated fans dress in glitter, feathers, and the occasional costume of past characters that Hilary has played over the years. The colourful crowd were ready to dance the night away, and that began when support act, La Roux, took to the stage. The singer warmed the crowd up with her catchy tracks including; Automatic Driver, I’m Not Your Toy, and, of course, her hit single Bulletproof.

Before long it was time for the main act of the night, Hilary Duff herself. The stunning songstress threw us back into the past straight away with a fan favourite hit Wake Up – the perfect bop to begin, what will be, an unforgettable setlist. The nostalgia continued as the next song of the evening was So Yesterday. Both tracks were very strong choices to begin with as the crowd proudly sang every word.

Hilary also performed her most recent songs from her album Luck…or Something which was released at the beginning of the year. Roommates, Weather For Tennis and Future Tripping were amongst these. The Lizzie McGuire star did throw in her old bangers in between to create an impeccable blend of old and new. Each song sung flowed beautifully after the other.

Now, for those who are chronically online, you may well remember the dance that went viral some years ago, and still occasionally circulates now. Hilary performed, what was then her new song With Love on the Today Show back in 2011, and it is a performance that has haunted the star ever since. There was a dance that went along with the performance and let’s just say…more effort could have been put into it (we say this kindly and with affection). Hilary has since seen the humour in this meme as she performed the song in Cardiff with a bunch of hardcore fans! The audience absolutely loved it.

Beat of My Heart was also a highlight as she took control of the camera that was linked to the screen so she can get a bit more intimate with the crowd. This was a running theme throughout the evening as she enjoyed getting to know her audience. There was a Wine O Clock section where she tried Welsh Cakes for the first time, and what unfolded was a wonderful chat between performer and fans which was simply lovely to witness.

It would not be a Hilary Duff gig without her iconic track What Dreams Are Made Of from the Lizzie McGuire Movie. The entire night was filled with dancing, laughter, nostalgia, and what can only be described as magic. Fans were transported to their childhood and everyones inner child went home smiling and their hearts bursting.
