The new horror film, Obsession, has been turning heads since it dropped in cinemas. Movie fans have claimed that it is one of the most scariest films they have seen in a long time. Is this true? Let’s find out.
The story follows Bear (Michael Johnston) who has a crush on his good friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). However, he is too scared to share his feelings with her so did something that will change their relationship forever. He invests in a One Wish Willow and makes an unforgiveable wish; for Nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world. And, unfortunately for Bear (and more so Nikki), his wish came true. A series of unfortunate events follows and Bear questions every thing.
Obsession was directed by 26-year-old Curry Barker. He had a $750,000 budget and a dream to create an uneasy, terrifying film…and he succeeded. The movie is an uncomfortable yet brilliant watch that has so many layers to count. On the surface, we see dark magic gone wrong and turns a girl into an “obsessive girlfriend”. There is so much more to it than that. The story delves into such themes as consent, lust vs love, and what happens when you try and control a woman’s body. You will leave theatres questioning who is the true villain in the story.
Curry put together a fantastic cast of new actors that you may never have seen on your screens before. This cast of new talent is set to be the next big actors in the industry. Their performance was highly believable, you forget that these are people pretending to be someone else. You will love them, hate them, and you certainly would not want to be them.
Obsession is chilling and amazing all wrapped into one. You will be thinking about it for days and days afterwards. It is now available to watch in all cinemas!
