Worldwide singer-songwriter, Shawn Mendes, has recently shared a brand-new single “Heart of Gold” – which is now available to stream on all major streaming platforms!

The acoustic driven single is filled to the brim with heartfelt emotion that touches you to the very core. Shawn has spoken publicly about the meaning behind the track at his live performances. He has stated in the past that “Heart of Gold” is about losing one of his childhood best friends who sadly passed away due to an overdose. During a live show in New York City, he explained his story whilst also dedicating the single to former One Direction member Liam Payne, who tragically lost his life just days before. At the show, Shawn explained;

“We heard the news about Liam. It felt like… It felt completely devastating. I got to meet him a couple times, and he was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed — it was beauty, shining into his eyes.”

“Heart of Gold” is raw and emotional and Shawn Mendes sings it with such beauty. He continues to explain that it is not just about loss and grief, be celebrating the lives of the ones we have lost. He further explains;

“It’s about grieving those we miss with tears, but it’s also about celebrating them… who they were and what they’ve left in this world. I just want to take a second to send so much love to him wherever he is up there… Liam, we love you! And the world is crying for you, brother.”

Although the most kind words were spoken, the song truly speaks for itself. It is the perfect song to play to help express and share your grief. It is a subject that is difficult to articulate at the best of times, but Shawn has a way with words and has used his art and talent to not only express his own feelings on the matter, but to help those who listen.

The single was released ahead of his new album “SHAWN” that is due to be dropped on 15th November so be sure to check it out!
