It has been a BIG week for McFly. in more reason than one! The celebrated their astonishing 21st anniversary with two sold out shows at the O2 Arena! And they had a few surprises up their sleeves.

McFly opened the show with the single that started it all – Five Colours In Her Hair. And already, you just KNEW you were going to be in for a fantastic evening. Already, the crowd were up on their feet ready to dance the night away and, spoiler, that is exactly what they did. The band very loosely went through each era of their career through their music. Their debut album “Room On The Third Floor” was up first where they sang two hit singles and two album tracks; Five Colours In Her Hair, That Girl, Surfer Babe and Broccoli. You were transported back to all those years ago where life seemed much simpler. A sense of nostalgia filled the room from top to bottom.

Wonderland was up next where they sang “I Wanna Hold You, “I’ll Be Okay,” “Ultraviolet” and “I’ve Got You” before then moving onto the Motion in the Ocean album. “Star Girl” and “Transylvania” went down a treat before the band slowed it down a bit with “Sorry’s Not Good Enough” and “Bubblewrap” – two songs in which haven’t been publically performed since 2016. Songs from Radio: Active and Above The Noise was then performed before the band switched the night up a little bit.

Tom Fletcher then brought out his iconic pink ukuele for their track “Love Is Easy” before moving onto to “Happiness”. It was here when the concert took a bot of a weird turn but in the best way possible. The lights went out and then…Danny Jones’ Piranha costume from when he won The Masked Singer appeared in the audience to sing his rendition of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now”…yes, you read that sentence right. This was of course just a distraction for when Danny himself appeared on the B-stage to perform “Red” – an incredible rock song which featured on the bands “The Lost Songs” record. Danny had the audience in the palm of his hand for this song as the crowd went absolutely wild.

To recover, Danny then sang an acoustic version of their album track “Walk in the Sun” and it was here when Tom joined him on the same stage to sing a beautiful medley of a handful of songs that included; Love is on the Radio, Touch the Rain, Too Close for Comfort, She Left Me, and Tonight is the Night. Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd then joined them on the B-side stage where together once more, performed “Room on the Third Floor” and “Obviously.” Now, the previous night, another certain band gate-crashed the stage. The members of Busted bombarded the stage and challenged McFly to a Battle of the Bands. It was announced that the two iconic bands will be settling their feud next year on a joint tour. You can read more about that here!

Power to Play was the last album McFly needed to perform before wrapping things up. It was here where they sang “Forever’s Not Enough” and “Honey I’m Home.” Just before the encore, they sang “Memory Lane” which hasn’t been performed since 2017. The encore ended on two of the most iconic McFly songs; “All About You” and “The Heart Never Lies.” During these songs, there was not a dry eye in the audience. Especially during The Heart Never Lies where Tom sang the emotional line “Another year over, and we’re still together, it’s not always easy, but McFly’s here forever.”

Overall, the atmosphere was euphoric. Fans left on a massive hight that will take a few days to recover from. It was an escapism like no other. McFly have been doing this for 21 years and they can still fill these huge venues – that simply tells you all that you need to know!
