Billy Porter has released new anticipated EP, ‘Black Mona Lisa Vol. 2: The Cookout Sessions’, now available to listen on streaming platforms!

The new release starts with the gorgeous ‘Leap’. Setting the vibe for the entire collection, this track is the perfect introduction for the EP. It really sets the precedents of what’s to come, and the standards are considerably high.

Next up we have ‘Black Mona Lisa feat. Big Freedia’. This incredibly personal track fights for those who were never given a chance, no matter what their situation. A huge nod to the kids who were brought up without a chance and fought their way to happiness.

Following this, is ‘Skin Deep’. Billy’s vocals are particularly glorious with this entry. This sultry track is a perfect listen for a relaxed Sunday morning, and will have you singing along in no time.

Half way through the EP, is ‘Not Today’. This track is heavily influenced by Disco and 70’s vibes with his own personal spin. Billy Porter has done an incredible job of creating musical masterpieces on this EP, and ‘Not Today’ is no exception.

When discussing ‘Not Today’, Billy Porter said:

‘FINALLY READY, that felt grounded in history as well as simultaneously being thrillingly modern. I’m first generation post-civil rights movement, and I grew up with protest music that has all but disappeared in the music industry of today. It’s time to use music to speak truth to power again. ‘NOT TODAY’ is a call-to-action. Musically inspired by the topical songs of the 70s, which were penned by Norman Whitfield‘NOT TODAY’ is a demand for equality and change! A change for good.”

Following this is a live rendition of track ‘Audacity’. Having a live track has taken the EP in a different direction, but a fantastic listen none the less. Slowing things down with his perfect ballad, ‘Audacity’ proves his vocal abilities and story telling abilities.

Bringing the new collection of tracks to a close, is a remix of ‘Leap’, Sgt. Slick’s Discotizer Remix. A clever finish for the new release, finishing the same way it started with a completely new and reimagined sound.
