Action packed ‘Monkey Man’ has got cinema fans talking and with good reason. It might be the best film to come from 2024 so far!
From the start, we see Kid (Dev Patel) fighting in an underground fight club, beaten to a pulp night after night. There’s a sense that the viewer doesn’t know the full story, and it soon unfolds that Kid is on the hunt for revenge.
If you want to see one vengeful man take on the rich and elite, this will be an incredible watch for you. Seeking revenge for the wrongful death of his mother, Kid is able to work his way to who he believes to be responsible, but is not afraid to get rid of anyone who stands in his way. ‘Monkey Man’ is also a journey of self discovery and acceptance, and acknowledging that you can not change the past.
Throughout the film we see Kid’s scarred hands, which serve as a constant reminder of what he’s lost. Scene by scene, the puzzle forms together nicely and the need for revenge grows stronger.
The performance from Dev Patel is second to none, who is entirely believable with the need for revenge and the extent he will go to to make this possible. The pure passion for the story itself truly shows and
With sleek one-take action sequences, as well as the conflicting idea of cheering on a potential bad guy, ‘Monkey Man’ is a phenomenal watch. As well as starring, Dev Patel also directed, and wrote the film too, along side Paul Angunawela and John Collee.
You’ll be seriously on the edge of your seat for much of the film, and often takes you in a direction you’re not expecting.
