The latest instalment of the Insidious franchise has arrived with Insidious: The Red Door. It’s available to watch in cinemas now!
Insidious: The Red Door goes right back to where it began and follows the Lambert family and where they are now. Previously married Renai (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Patrick Wilson), are not estranged and have recently had a divorce. In an attempt to co-parent their children Dalton, Foster and Kali, the two are trying to find their way in this new setting.
It very early on comes to light that Josh and Dalton were hypnotised in order to forget the events of the first film. Renai however still remembers the events. We are 9 years in the future at this stage and other than the divorce, it’s been pretty smooth sailing with no reminders of the Lipstick Demon or Old Lady. That is until Dalton heads off to college.
Josh attempts to repair his broken relationship with their son by going on a road trip and taking his to college. Studying art, Dalton finds himself in a trance when digging deep into his past to create new paintings for his teacher. Piece by piece, Dalton is trying to put together the pieces of his broken past but is struggling to remember exactly what happened to him.
With the help of his new friend Chris (Sinclair Daniel), he starts to realise the power of astral projection and how this can help him figure out what happened the year he was 10.
If you’re looking for a new horror with nostalgic elements and twists and turns along the way, this is a must watch. It’s eclectic taste comes from bittersweet family moments and horrific gore filled scare jumps. A combination you didn’t know you wanted until the Insidious films!
