‘Men’ is a though provoking horror that will have you on the edge of your seat for the duration! It’s available to watch on Amazon Prime.
The film was released in cinemas back in June of this year, and is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. It is one of many movies distributed by A24 that will make you feel uneasy and draw your own conclusions on the meaning.
Directed by Alex Garland, ‘Men’ looks over themes of grief, suicide, sexism and many more. In light of a recent tragedy, Harper (played by Jessie Buckley) is in need of some time to herself, and books into a countryside manor for some alone time. With the longing of being at one with her thoughts, the lonesome feel doesn’t last long.
The first person she meets is Geoffrey (played by Rory Kinnear), who owns the lodge she is staying at. Already filling her with uncomfortable vibes, she accepts that this might not be a peaceful escape.
While becoming familiar with her surroundings, Harper finds a tunnel to explore. She has a wonderful almost child like time, creating vocal overlays with the echoes and making her own sounds. It’s clear to the audience that she is finally at peace, however, it’s this scene where she realised she might not be safe after all.
From there, she meets a range of locals who live near by. Police officer, a couple of men in the pub, a child. All of which have spooky similarities that has Harper question her sanity.
If you’re looking for a spooky horror that has a wide range of paces, we couldn’t recommend it more. There are so name themes explored, and it’s a great movie to talk about after. There are several interpretations by viewers but can all agree this is an absolute must watch!
