The massively popular ‘Smile’ has landed in cinemas, and promises to give you the fright of your life this Halloween!
Dr. Rose Cotter, played by Sosie Bacon, is a burnt out psychiatric ward who is unable to leave work at work. Passionate about her job, she works around the clock helping patience who have extreme mental health concerns.
Just when she is about to call it a day and head home, she is introduced to Laura Weaver (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is overcome with emotion when explaining she is a top student and a bright kid, but has also very recently battled with the thought of knowing she will die soon. That is exactly what happens very early on in the film, which Dr. Cotter saw happen.
From here, the movie has an ‘It Follows’ and ‘The Ring’ type vibe with the main character trying to work out how to fight the curse before their time is up. Viewers see her life unravel in scary and mysterious ways throughout the film, with some shocking horror jump scares.
Dr. Cotter has a vast range of support around her. Her fiance Trevor (Jessie T. Usher), her sister Holly (Gillian Zinser) and her brother in law Greg (Nick Arapoglou). But will they believe the horrors she must face day to day? With what she is exposed to in her day to day job, it seems unlikely.
Overall, this new horror is a true homage to its’ peers and has received rave reviews so far. With many unexpected twists and turns, you really won’t be able to guess what happens next. Dealing with some big topics such as suicide, abuse and poor mental health, viewers discretion is advised. The eerie ‘Smile’ is now available to watch in cinemas.
