REVIEW – ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ is Released in Cinemas!

“Where The Crawdads Sing” has been one of the most highly anticipated films to be released in 2022. It was released on the 22nd of July, and what a rollercoaster of emotion it is!

The film is a based off the book with the same name by Delia Owens. The book has been highly praised for its exceptional writing, stunning imagery, and impeccable story-telling. The film adaptation did it justice. The story follows a girl named Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones) who lives on the marsh surrounded by nature. In her early years, she was abused by her dad and abandoned by the rest of her family, leaving her to fend for herself. In her adult life, she has been accused of murder after local man, Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson) was found killed in her marsh. But did she do it?

As well as Edgar-Jones and Dickinson, the cast also features Taylor John Smith as Tate Walker, David Strathairn as Tom Milton, Michael Hyatt as Mabel Madison, and so much more! Edgar-Jones did a terrific job of playing Kya, a shy marsh girl who no one in town understands. Some characters a likable, others…are not so much. But that’s the beauty of it. The relationships are complicated, the tragedies are heartbreaking, and you are likely to shed a tear or two in the process.

Behind the scenes, director Olivia Newton was able to capture the story perfectly, and successfully bought Owens’ words to life. She had the help of Reese Witherspoon who had the role of producer alongside Lauren Neustadter. The perfect team of strong, talented women which is what we love to see. For the music fans, Taylor Swift was put in charge of the soundtrack with her stunning single “Carolina” – which fits with the edgy, eerie mood of the film wonderfully. The single is now available to stream!
