Liverpool has been announced as the host to bring fans together for the David Bowie World Fan Convention, coming in 2022.
The convention will take place across multiple locations and venues in the city between Friday 17th – Sunday 19th July 2022. The event is organised by the ‘David Bowie Glamour’ fanzine, and Liverpool music festival producers Sound City. The event is perfectly timed with the 50th anniversary of one of Bowie’s most successful albums, ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’.
The convention if jam-packed with activities and rare appearances. This includes Bowie’s long term musical collaborators Carlos Alomar and Gail Ann Dorsey. There will also be appearances from Spider From Mars, Woody Woodmansey, Robin Clark and Donny McCaslin.
Carlos Alomar, guitarist and band leader for over 20 years said:
βIt’s been quite an odyssey, from Ziggy to Blackstar. We have shared much with our fans and now we find ourselves able to say thanks and answer all the unanswered questions to get a glimpse of the lives we have led. We are honoured to represent and celebrate the life and times of our beloved David with you all. So, let’s rejoice together.β
As well as this, fans and visitors alike will have the opportunity to attend exhibitions and talks regarding the visual style of Bowie, discussed by The Duffy Archive, Denis O’Regan, Brian Aris and a range of other popular photographers and designers.
Organisers have even been able to confirm appearances from authors of books written about the life and career of Bowie. Confirmed attendees include Nicholas Pegg who wrote ‘The Complete David Bowie’, and Kevin Cann, the author of ‘David Bowie: A Chronology’ and ‘Any Day Now’.
When discussing the convention, Kevin Cann said:
βI am delighted to be invited to attend the first joint David Bowie Glamour Fanzine and Sound City David Bowie World Fans Convention. I look forward to meeting friends both old and new at this special event. See you there!β
