Over three decades, the stunning songstress has been releasing inspiring music that captivates many. “Africa, One Of A Kind” is no exception to this rule and has given us an insight of what is next. It is the first single to be released ahead of her new album “Mother Nature.” The official music video can now be viewed via YouTube below;
When talking about “Africa, One Of A Kind,” Angélique Kidjo explains;
“We are all Africans and the blood of Africa runs through our life. This song, which I recorded with one of the icons of the new generation of African artists, is a declaration of love to the continent. We want to change the way it is portrayed and show its beauty to the world”
The single sees a wonderful appearance from Mr Eazi and Salif Keita. Mr Eazi is a Nigerian singer-songwriter. Together, they have created a spellbinding track has a substantial meaning for the pair of them. They have proven that they are the ultimate dream team. When talking about the feature, Angélique further explains;
“Mr Eazi started that song with a sample from Salif Keita’s ‘Africa’, a song I was supposed to perform last March with Manu Dibango (the Cameroonian musician who fell victim to Covid 19). The event was cancelled but it was meant to be a celebration of the 60th anniversary of my country and 16 other countries gaining independence from France – which happened just two weeks after I was born. The question the song is asking is ‘Are we really independent?”.
This will not be the only feature that we are treated to on the album however. “Mother Nature” will see a variety of guests including Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Shungudzo, Zeinab & Lionel Loueke, Sampa The Great, Blue Lab Beats & Ghetto Boy, EARTHGANG and –M-. It’s fair to say, this upcoming album is going to be extra special.
