INTERVIEWJC Stewart Talks About New Single, Collabs, and More!

Today (8th January 2021), sees the incredible new release from JC Stewart. “Break My Heart” is now available to stream on all major streaming platforms now!

Not only has the new year been treated to a brand-new JC Stewart track, but it has also come with a music video which can now be viewed below;

The rising star is no stranger to the music scene. His single “I Need You To Hate Me” was well-loved by many music fans as it has reached over a massive 24.8 million streams on Spotify! 2020 also saw the release of his debut EP “When The Light Hits The Room,” which sees four stunning tracks that you are bound to put straight onto your favourite playlists.

“Break My Heart” is a highly catchy, and upbeat track that many who listen will find relatable. It tells a tale of a relationship that’s toxic and bad for you, and how addicting that can be. Whilst this is quite a difficult situation to explain unless you have been there, JC uses the power of music to perfectly execute the circumstance. Pair that with the music video that bought the story to life, and you will get angry at an ex that you may not even have. The single has also seen the help from none other than One Direction star Niall Horan.

JC Stewart is clearly one to watch in 2021. We wanted to know a bit more about him as an artist. What is it like working with some of the biggest names in the industry? What is it like to have your music heard by so many people? Well, we’re here to give you those answers. Check out what he had to say below!

I wanted to start by talking about the EP “When The Light Hits The Room” you released last month.  What was the process like when creating this EP? Can you describe it for us?

It was amazing! I got to go into the studio of my dreams for a week and just focus on writing this EP. I’ve never done something with an end goal like that so honestly, it was a dream come true!

What is it like to have this body of work be released out into the world? To have people listen to these songs you’ve worked so hard on? What’s the feedback been like?

It’s been some of the best feedback I’ve ever had! I was pretty nervous because it was a little bit different to stuff I’d released in the past and I’d written it so quickly I hadn’t had time to seconds guess anything but I’m so glad it’s gone down as well as it has.

You wrote the EP with the amazing Tom Odell. How did that come about? What
was it like working with him?

We’d done a session a few weeks before I started on the EP and it went really well. He’s been a hero of mine since I was 16 so it was a HUGE deal for me to get to work with him this closely on my debut EP. He is probably one of the best writers I’ve ever worked with and his input was invaluable.

Your new single “Break My Heart” is being released on the 8 th of January –which is a great start to the year! What can you tell us about it? What’s it about?

It’s a song I wrote over lockdown with Niall Horan, Plested and TMS and is the biggest, loudest, fastest thing I’ve done yet. It’s about a crazy holiday romance where you know it’s a terrible idea, but fall head over heels anyways and have to try and come out the other side of it.

You’ve recently worked with 220 Kid for your single “Too Many Nights.” The collaboration works incredibly well! We want to know, who would your dream collaboration be and why?

Either Mark Ronson or Coldplay. I just think these two artists write perfect songs. They are nearly almost flawless and unite people in a way that only a few can. I would die if I got to play live with Chris Martin.

It’s recently been announced that you will be performing at “Barn On TheFarm” festival this year. How excited are you to get on stage? What can people expect from a live performance with yourself?

I CAN’T WAIT. Barn on the Farm is the best place on the planet and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. My live shows are way more fun than you think they’re gonna be. High energy, loud and very singalong. It’s my favourite thing in the world and I can’t wait to get back to it.

If you could perform at any festival in the world, which one would you choose?

Glastonbury. It has to be. Although I wouldn’t say no to Coachella at this point.

Who else would you want to be on the line-up with you?

For the sake of a night out, Cardi B, Capaldi, Ed Sheeran, Yungblud and Miley Cyrus. Carnage.

If I told you to write a song based on what you’re feeling right now, what would the song be about, and what would it be called?

Probably something catchy like, “im hungry and wish I could go on holiday”

What is one question you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does? Please do answer the question you come up with!

If you could be any other musician for the day who would it be and why? And honestly, would try out being Yungblud for a bit. Seems like fun.

Finally, can you tell us of any future plans you may have in 2021?

Loads of music. Loads of fun. Travelling and shows when I can.
