We love this track and wanted to know a bit more about it. We had a catch with Darling Boy to talk about “Air Conditioned Gypsy,” the story behind his stage name, and what his future plans are. Check it out!;

Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Let’s start by talking a bit about your most recent release AIR CONDITIONED GYPSY’. What can you tell us about it? How did it come about?

Thanks for having me witter on all over your website! I can tell you all you’d like to know, and what’s more is that it’s all absolutely free of charge. I’m that kind of guy. They don’t call me Darling BOY for nothing. Here’s the first nugget (ROCK FACT drum roll): The glorious Irish citadel of Dublin is entirely responsible for the birthing of Air Conditioned Gypsy and I like to think it’s final flourish was as significant an event for the city – and the world – as the moment Bono and the Edge decided that, yes, it was a band.

Could you talk us through the writing process you went through when creating the track?

I tend to do this thing called Sitting In A Room Until Something Falls Out, Rolls Around, Sets Itself On Fire And Starts Dancing. It’s a long, sometimes laborious process but it works. And if it works, then one must do what one must.

What would you say is your favourite lyric from the song and why?

“If I see tomorrow going wrong / I’ll just carry on” is an important thing for us all to carry, I think. Resilience in the face of adversity. VERY 2020. Must’ve predicted this year, deep down in my waters. Cosmic.

If you had to describe your sound to somebody who may not have heard your songs before, how would you describe it?

I would fix them with an earnest yet playful stare, the kind that doesn’t drown you but lets you paddle a little, and tell them “my dear new friend, I would like to tell – nay, ASSURE – you with the utmost confidence that the musical oeuvre of this Darling BOY character is just very, very good.”

We’re quite interested in the stage name “Darling Boy.” Could you tell us the story behind it?

I’m a guy of extremes and it was a toss-up between that and ‘Orrible Bastard. Fortunately, heads won.

Your talents are entirely self-taught. What advice would you give to somebody who also wants to get into the music industry or performing but doesn’t know where to start?

Follow your nose, follow your gut, always say yes, keep an open mind and an even more open heart, accept that learning is a never-ending process and always try to be more productive than the next guy. Also – there’s no right or wrong way to do it – if you’re on the right path, you’ll know.

Alongside music, you also have done your fair share of acting. How do the two differ? Which would you say is your favourite, singing or acting?

I suppose the key difference is that with acting you’re putting yourself in someone else’s soul, whereas with music you’re diving deeper into your own. Both very gratifying experiences, in their own way, and it’s difficult to compare them. Sandwiches and toast, that’s what they are. And I LOVE both.

Finally, what are you currently working on? Can you tell us of any future plans?

Next single is all set for October and we’ve got an animated video accompanying it! There’s an absolute treasure trove of music in the pipeline so make sure to keep an eye on the DB socials which all handily end in ‘darlingboymusic’.
